Betsey joins the typing pool but she’s really too spirited to stay there.  She speaks her mind, writes a fraudulent letter of recommendation, and is let go, but is soon on her way to London where she manages to land on her feet, impressing Mr. Jones (for whom the fraudulent letter was intended) with how she manages tours for sightseers at his new Idensea pier.
